The actress Elisabeth Thielemann was born in Chiemgau, Germany, where she spent her childhood and youth. At the age of 18, she left her home village and went to Munich. After working in an editorial office at Süddeutsche Verlag, she completed a degree in public administration. She then began working as a consultant for young people. She also worked as a press spokesperson for a Munich theater group, but also performed on stage herself. After further training, she then devoted herself to acting in 1995 and can look back on numerous engagements in film, television and on the stage.
Her book tells the story of three generations of a German family from the present day back to 1850. The dark times of German history such as the Second World War, the persecution of Jews, the post-war period with unemployment and hunger, but also the time of the SED regime and the associated separation of families, as well as the childhood of a puppeteer‘s daughter are among the topics. A doll that holds a secret is passed down in the family. By penetrating the past to the oldest generation, a family of puppeteers who traveled through Saxony between 1800 and 1900, the secret of the puppet becomes more and more apparent. The author succeeds in bringing German history, which is meant to keep memories alive, to life.
